Each of your articles should include:

1. an explanation of the theory you have decided to focus on (such that each of your papers will have a different textual focus);

2. a close reading of 1–2 quotes in the reading/text;

3. an explanation of why the theory is beyond-relevant today with a link to a contemporary article that you have either located or become familiar with through class discussion;

4. an ‘inviting’ title, subtitle, and image that reinforces the main ideas and arguments presented in your paper.

Word Count
An ideal word count for an online article such as this can range from 1200–1800 words. If you go over this word count, ask yourself how you can make the reading experience more interesting and engaging for your reader. If you go under this word count range, as yourself if you have really met the requirements for this assignment. The close reading requirement will likely consume a lot of your word count.

Article 1 tags can be either TRUTH or HOME.

Submission Guidelines
1. Submit a PDF version of your article on Canvas. You can write your article in Medium and then when you are done, “EXPORT AS PDF” — this way I can grade on Canvas and have all of your images and formatting in a PDF format.

2. You can either publish your article on Medium as public or unlisted.

3. After you ‘publish’ in whatever way you choose, you will see three little dots appear in the same line (on the right side) as your name (your name will be on the left) on the published article. From this point, you will need to:

  • Click the three dots
  • Scroll to ‘Add to Publication’
  • Then choose our publication ‘Black Feminist Thought’ (our journal icon is a picture of Ida B. Wells)
  • Then click ‘Add Story’

After this step, I will add your article to our journal and it will go live in whatever order I add the article.
